Bob Thomas did an amazing job speaking to us. The biggest thing I got out of everything he said: The hurricane and the Gulf did not create the devastation. The broken levees did. I really did not know this before. Honestly, I didn't even know that New Orleans wasn't really right on the Gulf Coast. Crazy. I thought Pam Nath did a decent job taking us around. Going to the devastated areas was what I was looking forward to. What I expected to see: ruined houses and some debris. What I saw: areas of no houses at all. They were just gone. It almost feels like this tragedy happened last week. I'm anticipating seeing more.

Walking around the French Quarter this afternoon was enlightening. It really is a beautiful area. It seems like a whole other town apart from New Orleans. That's how a lot of this city is. From one block to the next, there may be polar opposite neighborhoods.
My experience on Bourbon St. with Josh and Bill was...different. Even within the French Quarter it felt again like a whole other city. Those people are crazy. So much alcohol, so much music, and so so so many people! All on that one stretch of street! I'm glad I got to see that. I may not see anything similar ever again.

Every story is unique and exciting. One new thing I learned: in the week after the storm, helicopters were flying over those who needed rescued, none of which could rescue a single person. They could only throw them food and water. Every story is similar, but they all keep me on the edge of my seat.
